Bijnor students make solar car with just Rs 90k
Bijnor: If a local college has its way, a solar powered car built at a cost of Rs 90,000 and can run up to 40 kmph, will make its way on the city’s streets.
As many as 20 students of mechanical engineering from Bijnor’s RV Institute of Technology (RVIT) on Moradabad Road put their heads together and built the car as part of a project. Managing director of RVIT, Sunny Deshwal, said, “Final year students of our college worked hard for a full year and finally succeeded in creating this unique car.

It can attain a speed of up to 40 kmph and costs just Rs 87,675. The college has funded it entirely. We have asked the administration to adopt this project so that soon, it can run on the streets too.”
Amit, a student associated with the project, said, “After launching this car, I want to become a successful businessman and innovator. If we continue to get support from the college administration like this, we will surely make new innovations such as this one.”
Explaining how the project was worked out, RVIT registrar Vipin Kumar said, “20 students were divided into four teams, and they worked on different areas of the car. First, each part of designed on Auto Cad, then it was created and finally assembled. One team, under assistant professor Vinit Chaudhary, prepared a chech is suspension system. Another team created the car’s body and lighting system. A third team made the transmission system. Finally, the fourth team did the crucial job of fitting the solar panel into the car.”
